Metropolitan Building Wedding, New York, Long Island City – Wedding Photography by Josh Wong – Michelle & Matt

© Josh Wong Photography

The Metropolitan Building Wedding by far has been one of my favorite places to shoot. I’ve shot weddings as well as editorial fashion shoots here and I never tire of coming here. It really is a photographers dream to shoot here. When Michelle and Matt contacted me to shoot their wedding and told me that this was their venue, I couldn’t have been more excited.

What makes this building special, is that it was originally an electrical parts factory and was later converted to be used as storage space to accommodate a variety of artisan studios and workrooms. Many of the supplies and furniture from these artists are still in storage throughout this building which provide great setups for shooting in different areas and corners of the building. There are 14-foot ceilings, windows all around and exposed brick walls. There is a carpentry shop too, which I haven’t even gotten to yet (maybe next time), and a huge inventory of antique props – cool chairs, lampshades, fabrics, mirrors, wardrobes, chests, trunks and dressers. I always have a million ideas of cool photoshoots of this place.. yet … just not enough time.

As for Matt and Michelle’s wedding, It was absolutely stunning. The details, the flowers, the gorgeous Marchesa wedding dress and the color schemes came together beautifully. Congratulations to Michelle and Matt! Enjoy!

2010 started out with the beautiful wedding of Jen & James. The couple were absolutely perfect for each other. Their wedding took place at the beautiful 3 West Club in New York City. This club is a classic venue that has a view of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Their wedding pictures at the 3 West Club were gorgeous. Below are some of my favorite images and a image montage from their wedding. Enjoy!

Nikki & Chris – “Old Hollywood” Wedding in New York City
November 7, 2009

Nikki and Chris were married at the landmarked Park Avenue Christian Church on the Upper East Side. The designers of this stately church were clearly influenced by the Gothic-styled La Sainte Chapelle in Paris, France as it shares a similar 70 foot spire.

The couple had an “Old Hollywood” inspired wedding. They along with their 20-plus bridal party and guests and were dressed de rigeur of this glamorous time period. Nikki wore a gorgeous white satin halter-neck gown with silver beading and a 3 foot long train. Her hair was styled into lush, film noir-style waves with a white silk flower and feather clip and she carried a bouquet of crimson red roses that had a dusting of silver glitter that shimmered by diamonds on the petals. While Chris wore a black, pin-striped suit which was paired with a white silk tie, white suspenders, and awesome black and white wing-tip shoes. Their bridesmaids wore long fitted black gowns with black satin gloves and long, draping strands of pearls. The groomsmen wore black 3-piece suits and black, pin-striped fedoras. Even the usherettes dressed the part, wearing short black dresses with red satin gloves. Their guests were stylishly dressed in full length tuxedos with tails and top hats, long elegant evening gowns and cocktail dresses in black and white, lots of pearls and sparkling diamond jewelry that were reminiscent of the days of Clark Gable, Rita Hayworth, Bette Davis, Marilyn Monroe, Katharine Hepburn, Fred Astaire, Cary Grant, and Humphrey Bogart.

Nikki and Chris celebrated their wedding banquet on a Circle Line cruise that sailed around the New York harbor with breathtaking views of the New York skyline, Lady Liberty, the Brooklyn bridge, and the Manhattan bridge. After the party, the couple was whisked off to the Waldorf Astoria in a white vintage Rolls Royce Phantom.
Here a few images from that wonderful night. Enjoy!

November 6, 2009 – Crystal and Eric Wedding – The Riviera at Massapequa
Crystal and Eric were married at the Community United Methodist Church in Massapequa, New York. Crystal was radiant in a gorgeous ivory silk organza gown with delicate lace appliqué from the world famous Kleinfeld Bridal salon, ivory Italian duchesse satin Filippa Scott open-toe stilettos, and sparkling, cubic zirconia hair jewelry. She had one maid of honor whom she affectionately called “Bean” and 4 bridesmaids who all wore silky chocolate brown satin gowns, brown crystal drop necklaces, and red pashminas. The groomsmen wore matching chocolate brown satin vests and ties.
Following the ceremony, the couple held their wedding celebration at the spectacular Riviera at Massapequa which is surrounded by immaculately manicured gardens with the pristine waters of the Great South Bay as a backdrop. The banquet hall was decorated with stunning red roses and ‘Lady in Red’ hydrangeas. Their cake was a 4-layer carrot cake with an ivory fondant, a chocolate brown satin ribbon and piped frosting pearls on each tier. It was delicious! The wedding favors were green Donate Life awareness bracelets from the National Kidney Foundation which were nestled in small chocolate brown gift boxes tied with brown satin ribbons. I had such a blast that day with Crystal and Eric, they are such an amazing couple and it was evident that they are much loved by their friends and families.

Below are some of my favorite photos of the evening and a short montage. Enjoy!

October 31, 2009 – Jasminka and Jim Wedding – St. Thèrese of Lisieux Church and Gurney’s Inn Wedding
Jasminka and Jim were married at the beautiful St. Thèrese of Lisieux Church in Montauk, a small village in the town of East Hampton, New York and located at the easternmost tip of Long Island. Montauk, like the rest of the Hamptons shares the same beautiful beaches and ocean views of the Atlantic. The St. Thèrese Church was originally built in 1935 but due to its proximity to the Atlantic, it endured considerable wind, water and salt exposure. The church was re-built between 2004 to 2007 and is a mix of old and new, retaining the gorgeous rose window above the front entrance from the original church while the chandeliers are replicas of the original ones. Jasminka wore a simple beaded lace gown with pearls and an ivory fur stole. Her maid of honor, Caroline wore a ruched gown in iridescent mauve taffeta with strappy silver stilettos. Jim wore a classic black tuxedo with a white satin bow tie.
After the wedding ceremony, the couple and their friends celebrated the night away at the historic Gurney’s Inn Resort and Spa which has hosted such famous guests as Elvis Costello, Gene Hackman, Goldie Hawn, Jessica Lange, Kevin Costner, and Hillary Clinton. It is also reported that U.S. President Richard Nixon wrote his acceptance speech at the Skippers Cottage at Gurney’s Inn.

Below are some of my favorite images and a montage. Enjoy!
